NPP Presidential hopeful Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has announced a bold plan to transform agriculture in the five Northern Regions, pledging to relocate the Ministry of Agriculture to Tamale when elected President. Addressing a charged crowd during his Unity Tour, he said the move would ensure direct government focus on the region’s agricultural potential.
According to him, 90% of the Tamale Airport will also be converted into a cargo terminal to export fresh vegetables to Europe, saying, “We’ll produce vegetables in abundance and export them from here at 11 p.m. — by 5 a.m., they’ll be in the UK and European markets.”
Ken Ohene Agyapong further revealed plans to establish fertilizer plants across the northern regions to enhance soil productivity and drive mechanized farming. “We need a fertilizer plant here because of the nature of your land. Before we mechanize our farms, we need fertilizer factories to sustain productivity,” he explained.
He challenged the chiefs and people of Tolon to provide 40,000 acres of land to kickstart the project, assuring them that he would fulfill his promise “whether I win or not.”
Taking a swipe at his opponents, Ken Agyapong said while others resort to lies and propaganda, his campaign is centered on solutions and job creation. “Politics is about interest. Let them tell you what they can do to put money in your pocket, not insults and falsehoods,” he said.
He urged delegates to “liberate themselves” by voting for a leader who will create businesses and empower citizens to be self-sufficient, not depend on politicians for their children’s school fees.
