During his engagement with delegates at Amenfi East, Presidential Hopeful Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong delivered a strong message on the growing galamsey crisis and its impact on the youth.
He noted that although illegal mining has severely destroyed lands across Amenfi, he does not blame the young people involved. According to him, many of them have completed school but remain unemployed, forcing them into risky survival options.
Ken Ohene Agyapong highlighted that the youth are fully aware of the health dangers associated with galamsey, including potential kidney and liver problems, yet they choose the work because staying home jobless exposes them to disrespect and hopelessness.
He stressed the need for leadership that understands business and can transform opportunities into sustainable jobs. Agyapong assured the delegates that a leader with real business experience can create employment avenues that allow young people to work, earn dignified incomes, and support their families without destroying the environment.
He called for a shift from criticism to solutions, emphasizing that the youth need jobs, not condemnation.
